Career Description 

As a General Office Clerk you will have many responsibilities including typing, data entry, faxing, preparing mailing lists, filing, stuffing envelopes, sorting checks, taking inventory, delivering messages and running errands. You can find employment in the public or private sector. Other titles that refer to General Office Clerks are Front Office Assistants, Office Assistants and Receptionists.

Administrative Assistants have greater responsibilities than those of General Office Clerks. You will schedule appointments and meetings, organize and maintain paper and electronic files, manage projects, take notes at meetings, prepare reports, draft letters, train employees, conduct research and maintain basic financial records like payroll. Employment can be found in all areas of the public and private sector.

Administrative Assistants are also referred to as Secretaries and Administrative or Executive Secretaries. Administrative Assistants are often promoted to Clerical Supervisors or Managers. As a Clerical Supervisor you will be the liaison between the clerical and managerial staff. Your responsibilities might encompass coordinating and allocating staff assignments and duties, evaluating staff performance, coordinating training and writing and enforcing staff policies.
