CART (Communication Access Realtime Technology) Providers are reporters that specialize in realtime writing working for the deaf community in schools, conferences and other environments. Broadcast (Closed) Captioners use specialized computer software to provide instant translation of what is said on television.
Employment opportunities for Judicial Court Reporters are available within court systems, large corporations, and freelance firms. CART Providers are hired by school districts, churches and convention centers. Broadcast

According to the National Court Reporters Association, Judicial Court Reporters earn more than $60,000 a year on average, while Broadcast (Closed) Captioners and CART Providers earn an average of $24,000 to $80,000 a year.
